TLDR A 10-year-old boy was diagnosed with a rare scalp condition causing hair loss and treated with a topical cream.
A 10-year-old boy presented with a localized patch of hair loss on the scalp, first noticed a few months after birth. The lesion showed minimal growth over time and had occasional redness and discharge, controlled with topical treatments. Examination revealed grouped comedonal lesions over a patch of partial alopecia on the occipital scalp, with no inflammation. A biopsy showed deep invaginations of the epidermis filled with keratin, without significant perifollicular inflammatory infiltrate. An atypical nevus comedonicus was diagnosed, and the patient was started on topical tretinoin 0.05% and is under follow-up.

A user noticed non-itchy, non-bleeding spots on their scalp while experiencing hair loss. Replies suggest the spots are likely sunspots or liver spots and recommend seeing a dermatologist; hair loss is attributed to male pattern baldness.

New potential hair loss treatment uses molecules from hairy moles to stimulate follicle growth. Topical solution requires less frequent application, like Botox injections a few times per year.
