TLDR Netherton syndrome causes skin and hair issues, confirmed by "bamboo hair" under dermoscopy, with no cure but managed with topical treatments.
Netherton syndrome (NS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by skin and hair abnormalities, including ichthyosis linearis circumflexa and trichorrhexis invaginata, also known as "bamboo hair." This case study presents a 5-year-old girl with NS, exhibiting symptoms such as pruritic skin eruptions and brittle hair. Dermoscopic examination confirmed the presence of bamboo hair, a key diagnostic feature of NS. The condition is linked to mutations in the SPINK5 gene, affecting skin and hair integrity. Management is symptomatic, involving topical treatments and moisturization, as there is no cure. Genetic testing is recommended for confirmation.
