TLDR A dark-haired Chinese girl had hair that looked banded under certain light but was normal under a microscope.
The study reported the first case of pseudopili annulati in a dark-haired Chinese girl. The hair exhibited an elliptical shape and was twisted along its long axis, creating a banded or ringed appearance due to light reflection on flattened segments. This banding was visible under polarized light but not under transmitted light, where the hair appeared dark with varying thickness at regular intervals, forming fusiform segments. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy showed no abnormalities in the hair's cuticle and cortex.
