Innovation of Natural Hair Dye: Gel Formulation Based on Dayak Onion Bulb Extract (Eleutherine Bulbosa (Mill.) Urb.) and Physical Properties Testing

The study investigates the effectiveness of a natural hair dye gel formulated with Eleutherine bulbosa (umbian bawang dayak) extract, known for its high anthocyanin content. The gel was tested in concentrations of 8%, 10%, and 12%, showing stable physical properties with a pH of 5.21-5.48 and no color change after 15 washes and sun exposure. The 12% concentration (F3) was most preferred, achieving dark brown color on bleached hair, while the 8% and 10% concentrations resulted in blonde and light brown colors, respectively. The dye did not significantly alter black hair color. The gel was found to be stable, non-irritating, and effective in covering white hair with shades ranging from light brown to dark brown.
