TLDR Patients with graft-versus-host disease often have nail changes related to the nail matrix, with severity not linked to skin condition.
The document reports a study analyzing nail changes in 31 patients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) out of 138 patients observed for one year. The study found that the most common nail change was the longitudinal ridge, followed by Beau line, onychomadesis, paronychia, trachyonychia, onycholysis, and leukonychia. Severe nail changes like onychatrophy and pterygium were rare. The study concluded that nail changes in GVHD are more likely related to the nail matrix rather than the nail bed and that there is little correlation between the presence or absence of nail changes and the severity of skin GVHD. No commercial support was identified for this study.
