TLDR Acitretin significantly reduced inflammatory attacks in a woman with Naevus Comedonicus Syndrome but caused side effects.
A 19-year-old woman with Naevus Comedonicus Syndrome (NCS) complicated by Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)-like lesions showed a significant response to oral acitretin combined with topical adapalene. Despite initial treatments with emollients, moisturizers, and various topical agents proving ineffective, the introduction of acitretin reduced the frequency of inflammatory attacks from 6-7 times to 1-2 times per year. However, the patient experienced side effects such as retinoid-dermatitis and elevated serum alkaline phosphatase levels, which led to intermittent treatment. The study highlighted the potential of acitretin in managing HS-like lesions in NCS, though complete healing was not achieved.
