Studysummary This study found that extracts of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-extract) and their protein components (MSC-protein) enhanced the proliferation and migration of periodontal ligament cells and induced significant periodontal tissue regeneration, showing potential as a new cell-free treatment for periodontal disease.

The study found that mesenchymal stem cell-derived protein extract (MSC-protein) promotes the proliferation and migration of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells and induces significant periodontal tissue regeneration. MSC-protein contains high concentrations of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), which are key to these effects. Transplantation of MSC-protein into a rat periodontal defect model resulted in the formation of new alveolar bone and PDLs, suggesting that MSC-protein could be a promising cell-free treatment for periodontal disease.
