TLDR MPA increases cancer spread by boosting Eph A2 activity.
The study investigated the functional differences and overlaps between aE-catenin and aT-catenin in vivo using conditional transgenic mice. By replacing aE-catenin with aT-catenin in specific organs, researchers observed that aT-catenin could rescue the lethal phenotype caused by aE-catenin knockout in skin, characterized by keratinocyte hyperproliferation and pre-cancerous lesions. However, the transgenic mice experienced recurrent partial baldness due to issues in hair cycle transition, indicating potential functional discrepancies or insufficient a-catenin levels. The findings provided proof-of-principle for further experiments on a-catenin protein switches in carcinoma models.
