TLDR Mite infestation is common in street dogs, especially young, male, and unhealthy ones, causing skin issues.
The study conducted in 2010 investigated mite infestation in 48 street dogs in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, finding a 62.5% infestation rate with Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis and Demodex canis. Infestation was more prevalent in dogs aged 1-2 years (68.9%) and in males (66.6%) compared to females (57.1%). Poor health increased susceptibility (75.7% in poor health vs. 33.3% in normal health). The back region was most affected (68.1%). Clinically, dogs exhibited alopecia, skin lesions, and pruritus, while histopathological findings included acanthosis and hyperkeratosis. The study highlighted the significant health threat posed by mite infestation in street dogs.
