TLDR Minoxidil ingestion can cause severe heart issues and requires careful medical monitoring.
This document described a case of minoxidil intoxication in a 2-year-old girl who ingested a hair lotion containing the drug. Minoxidil, a potent vasodilator, caused the child to develop severe tachycardia and hypotension within 4.5 hours of ingestion. Her heart rate remained elevated for 36 hours, peaking at 190 beats per minute. The case highlighted the need for prolonged hospital monitoring due to minoxidil's long-lasting effects. The treatment was primarily symptomatic, involving intravenous fluids and, if necessary, vasoactive drugs. The document also noted that while pediatric cases are rare, adults have experienced more severe outcomes from minoxidil intoxication.
