TLDR Combining minoxidil with other treatments like platelet-rich plasma or finasteride increases hair growth more than minoxidil alone.
This network meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of minoxidil in combination with other treatments for androgenetic alopecia, analyzing 20 study groups. The combination of platelet-rich plasma and basic fibroblast growth factor with minoxidil showed the highest efficacy, increasing hair density by 35.12 hairs/cm² compared to minoxidil alone. In males, finasteride with minoxidil was most effective, while in females, microneedle with minoxidil was superior. The study provides a hierarchy of minoxidil-based therapies to guide dermatologists in optimizing treatment for androgenetic alopecia.
