TLDR The study found unique microscopic features for hair or feather in five animal ingredients in Shenrongbian pill.
The study conducted a comparative analysis of the microscopic characteristics of hair or feather in five animal drug components found in Shenrongbian pill. The findings revealed distinct medulla indices and shapes for each component: Penis et Testis Canis had a medulla index of 40±0.07 with various shaped medulla cells and an imbrication and flat wave hair cuticle; Penis et Testis Equi had a medulla index of 66±0.10 with network-arranged medulla cells and a flat wave hair cuticle; Penis et Testis Bovis had a medulla index of 67±0.05 with ladder or network-arranged medulla cells and a flat wave hair cuticle; Penis et Testis Mustelae had a medulla index of 29±0.05 with generally single line-arranged medulla cells and a cuticle shape ranging from acuminate to slightly flat wave; Musculus et Bonis Passeris had a medulla index of 24±0.05 with bamboo joint-shaped barbs and an unclear medulla, lacking a hair cuticle.
