TLDR Children with early graying hair might have lower levels of certain nutrients like zinc, magnesium, and Vitamin B12.
The study conducted from November 2018 to March 2020 involved 56 children with premature graying of hair and 50 healthy controls, aged between 12 and 18 years. The research found that children with premature graying had lower mean levels of copper, zinc, iron, magnesium, and Vitamin B12 compared to the healthy controls. However, there was no significant difference in the levels of Vitamin D and folic acid between the two groups. The study also found that micronutrient supplementation could halt the progression of graying, and in some cases, reverse it. Despite these findings, the study had a small sample size and did not account for factors like dietary habits, suggesting the need for further research.
