TLDR Metformin effectively reduces hormone levels in women with PCOS.
The study investigated the therapeutic potential of metformin in treating hyperandrogenism in 55 Iraqi women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Participants, aged 18 to 45, took 500 mg of metformin twice daily for 3 months. Results showed significant reductions in serum levels of total and free testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) after treatment (p < 0.0001). The study concludes that metformin effectively reduces these hormone levels in PCOS patients, suggesting its potential benefit in managing the condition.
