TLDR Adding vitamin D to metformin lowers blood sugar more than metformin alone in type 2 diabetes.
This study compared the effects of metformin combined with vitamin D supplementation versus metformin alone on HbA1c levels in 140 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus over three months. Group A, receiving both metformin and vitamin D, showed a greater reduction in HbA1c levels (10.1 mmol/mol) compared to Group B, which received only metformin (7.2 mmol/mol). The results indicate that adding vitamin D to metformin therapy significantly improves glycemic control without serious adverse events, suggesting that vitamin D supplementation could be beneficial in diabetes management, especially in areas with high vitamin D deficiency.
