TLDR Androgenetic alopecia patients have a higher risk of metabolic syndrome.
This study investigated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and related factors in 31 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) at a dermatology hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The findings revealed that 38.7% of AGA patients had MS, significantly higher than the 12.9% in the control group (p = 0.042). AGA patients were 4.25 times more likely to develop MS compared to controls (OR= 4.25; 95% CI: 1.19 – 15.24; p = 0.026). The study concluded that AGA patients have a higher prevalence of MS, especially those with a longer duration or more severe hair loss, highlighting the importance of early screening and management of MS risk factors in this group.
