TLDR Higher testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate levels may help diagnose meibomian gland dysfunction.
This study compared hormone levels in 50 patients with seborrheic meibomian gland dysfunction to 50 controls, finding significant differences in serum testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate levels in both genders. In females, additional differences were noted in thyroid-stimulating hormone and prolactin levels. The results suggested that increased levels of testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate could serve as diagnostic markers for the condition.
