TLDR Finasteride works best in 6 months and lasts 6 years.
Finasteride is a drug used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss. Studies have shown that its maximum efficacy is achieved within 6 months and maintained over 6 years for both conditions. Finasteride reduces prostate size, improves urinary flow rate, and improves hair growth. The drug has a good safety profile with few side effects, but sexual dysfunction may occur. Dropout rates vary, but responders and nonresponders have similar short-term responses.
