TLDR A multidisciplinary approach with controlled exercise, better nutrition, hormone treatment, and psychological care is needed for anorexia nervosa.
The study explored the psychopathology of anorexia nervosa in 30 patients, highlighting the role of melancholy and mania in the disorder. Symptoms included malnutrition, hair loss, and amenorrhea, which increased cortisol levels and risk of osteoporosis. The study found that patients often had poor self-esteem and were fixated on maternal images, affecting their body perception. The research suggested that controlled exercise, improved nutrition, and hormone treatment, along with integrated psychological care, were effective therapies. However, the study was not conclusive due to the small sample size and lack of a control group.
