TLDR Low platelet count and hematocrit may increase the risk of hair loss in dengue fever patients.
This study analyzed 1,302 dengue fever patients and found that 15 (1.15%) developed alopecia, predominantly affecting females (93.33%). The hair loss, mainly telogen effluvium, typically occurred during the convalescent phase of dengue fever. Patients with both dengue fever and alopecia had significantly lower platelet counts and hematocrit levels compared to those without alopecia, suggesting these factors as potential risk indicators for dengue-associated alopecia.
