TLDR Thrombophilic conditions may worsen Long COVID symptoms due to increased blood clotting.
This systematic review analyzed six studies to explore the relationship between thrombophilic conditions and Long COVID (LC). It found that individuals with hypercoagulable states are at a higher risk of developing LC, with symptoms such as fatigue, dyspnea, and hair loss. Genetic factors like the MTHFR gene polymorphism were linked to increased risk. The review suggests that microthrombi formation and inflammation may be mechanisms behind these symptoms. Despite limitations such as small sample sizes and potential biases, the findings indicate a strong association between thrombophilia and LC, emphasizing the need for further research to confirm causative relationships and improve treatment strategies.
