TLDR Ring block anesthesia is the best method for PRP scalp injections due to low pain and high patient acceptance.
This prospective study involving 60 patients compared different methods of local anesthesia for PRP injections to the scalp for hair loss treatment. The study found that vibration anesthesia resulted in the highest intra-procedure pain, while nerve block was the least acceptable due to pain from the anesthetic injection and visible bulging. Post-procedural pain was highest with vibration anesthesia and lowest with ring block, which also had the highest patient acceptance. The study concludes that standardizing the anesthetic protocol, particularly favoring the ring block technique, can significantly improve patient comfort and compliance.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Nutrafol, a hair loss supplement, has limited and potentially biased research, with one study showing a 10% increase in hair count for women after 6 months but no significant results for men. The user concludes that cheaper, well-studied options like minoxidil may be more effective, especially for men, given the lack of evidence supporting Nutrafol.

Someone's brother tried Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair loss; it had minimal effect on hair but improved skin appearance. Microneedling at home was suggested as a more sustainable alternative.
