TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of Lichen Planopilaris are crucial to prevent permanent hair loss.
Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is a rare chronic inflammatory condition that can lead to scarring alopecia if not diagnosed and managed early. A case study of a 65-year-old woman with progressive hair loss, pruritus, and scalp inflammation illustrates the importance of early recognition and treatment. Initial treatment with topical agents provided partial relief, but a dermatology consultation confirmed LPP, leading to the initiation of systemic corticosteroid therapy. This case underscores the critical role of primary care in the early identification and management of inflammatory scalp conditions to prevent permanent hair loss.
