TLDR Eyelash drooping is linked to eyelid function and the presence of a double eyelid in Asians, and should be considered in eyelid surgery.
The study investigated lash ptosis (LP) in Asians, focusing on its prevalence and associated factors, particularly in the context of blepharoplasty or ptosis correction. It included 160 patients without ptosis and 16 with acquired ptosis. The researchers measured LP degree, marginal reflex distance 1, levator function, and the presence of a double fold. Significant differences in LP ratings were found between non-ptosis and acquired ptosis groups (P = 0.00). LP rating correlated significantly with marginal reflex distance 1 (r = -0.272, P < 0.01), levator function (r = -0.170, P < 0.01), and the presence of a double fold (r = -0.233, P < 0.01). These findings could help in planning upper eyelid surgeries for Asian patients with LP.
