TLDR A new method was developed to detect pesticide residues on apples without damage.
This study successfully developed a label-free flexible SERS detection platform using a sodium alginate-chitosan composite gel loaded with silver nanocubes (AgNCs) for the nondestructive detection of thiram pesticide residues on apples. The composite gel's excellent pore structure facilitated AgNCs adsorption and enrichment, enhancing the surface-enhanced Raman scattering effect for high sensitivity detection. The substrate demonstrated improved homogeneity and reproducibility, ensuring reliable results. This platform is expected to advance the commercialization of SERS technology for sensitive pesticide residue detection in food.
