The study developed methods to detect and localize iodine in biological tissues using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). By applying iodine-releasing coatings to frozen pig skin and using freeze-drying techniques, researchers were able to create digital color maps showing iodine concentrations in skin cross-sections. The methods preserved the structure of the stratum corneum and hair follicle regions, allowing for clear visualization of iodine in these areas. This approach addressed challenges in sample preparation and provided a way to study iodine distribution in biological tissues.
