TLDR Oral JAK inhibitors show promise for treating alopecia areata but have challenges like relapse and side effects.
Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors are a promising treatment for alopecia areata, targeting the JAK/STAT pathway linked to hair loss. Oral JAK inhibitors show the most potential, but challenges include relapse risk, side effects, and limited effectiveness of topical forms. Ongoing research aims to develop more selective JAK inhibitors and strategies to maintain treatment benefits while addressing high costs.
