TLDR Intralesional methotrexate effectively treats alopecia areata by reducing TNF-α levels, leading to hair regrowth.
The study evaluated the efficacy of intralesional methotrexate in treating alopecia areata by examining its impact on lesional TNF-α levels. Involving 30 patients, the treatment was administered every two weeks for 3 months, with scalp biopsies taken before and after the treatment. Results showed significant hair regrowth and a notable decrease in lesional TNF-α levels, indicating that intralesional methotrexate is an effective treatment for alopecia areata, likely due to its mechanism of reducing TNF-α.
