TLDR Minoxidil helps with hair regrowth in women with androgenic alopecia.
Female pattern hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia, is a common condition that can have a significant impact on a woman's self-confidence and quality of life. A Cochrane Review of 22 trials found that most interventions had a high risk of bias or did not address the desired outcomes. However, there is evidence that topical treatment with minoxidil can help with hair regrowth, based on seven studies with almost 1,000 women. Future research should address the sustainability of treatment effects, psychosocial impact, coping mechanisms, and quality of life issues. Cosmetic aids and hair transplant surgery should also be considered as options.
