TLDR Inositol was more effective than Metformin in treating symptoms of PCOS in women.
The study from 2015 compared the effects of myo-inositol plus D-chiro-inositol (62 patients) to Metformin (66 patients) in 128 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) over a 6-month period. It found that the Inositol combination was significantly more effective in increasing spontaneous menstruation (46.7%) and pregnancy rates (11.2%), as well as in promoting weight loss and elevating progesterone levels, compared to Metformin, which showed lower rates of menstruation (13.6%) and pregnancy (3.0%). Both treatments had similar effects on Anti-Mullerian Hormone levels and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Despite its findings, the study noted limitations such as the small sample size and the lack of randomization, suggesting the need for further research.
