TLDR New devices may treat heart failure more effectively than drugs.
Despite significant advancements in pharmacological treatment for heart failure, morbidity, mortality, and hospitalizations remain high across all heart failure phenotypes. Many patients continue to experience troubling symptoms despite optimal drug therapy. To address these unmet clinical needs and the rapid increase in catheter-based interventions, innovative device-based interventions have emerged as potential therapies for various heart failure phenotypes. These device-based interventions can overcome some limitations of drug therapy, such as drug intolerance, costs, or non-compliance, and may more effectively target specific pathophysiological mechanisms associated with heart failure, making them more effective than drug therapy. The lecture will cover a review of current knowledge on new devices being implemented in heart failure treatment.
