TLDR Functionalized silicones improve hair appearance, combing, and manageability.
The study investigated the impact of functionalized silicones on hair fiber–fiber interactions and their correlation to the macroscopic behavior of hair, such as visual appearance, combing performance, and manageability. Using the incline plane fiber loop method with a high-precision motorized rotary stage, the researchers quantified fiber–fiber interactions by examining low load static friction as a function of polymer molecular weight, dose, and chemical architecture. The findings were related to the behavior of virgin curly hair in high humidity, aiming to fine-tune silicone chemistry for specific consumer benefits and hair types.
