TLDR PRP shows promise for skin and hair treatments but needs more research to confirm its effectiveness.
PRP, an autologous serum rich in platelets and growth factors, is increasingly used in dermatology for hair growth, skin renewal, acne scar removal, dermal augmentation, and treating striae distensae. Originating in the 1970s for thrombocytopenia treatment, PRP's application expanded to surgical procedures in the 1980s and 1990s. This review highlights PRP's mechanisms, clinical evidence, safety, and potential applications in skin treatments. While PRP shows significant promise, further research with larger participant groups is needed to standardize procedures and confirm its efficacy.
