TLDR Galla chinensis solution effectively treats fungal skin infections in dogs.
The study from January 1, 2017, evaluated the effectiveness of Galla chinensis solution (GCS) in treating dermatophytosis in dogs, caused by fungi such as Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The treatment effects were assessed through mycological cure rates and a clinical score that included inflammation, hair loss, and lesion scale. The results indicated that GCS significantly improved skin lesions and fungal eradication, with GCS at concentrations of 10% and 5% showing higher efficacy than the positive control, Tujingpi Tincture. The fungal eradication efficacy was over 85% after 14 days of treatment with GCS at concentrations of 10%, 5%, and 2.5%. This suggests that GCS has a potential antifungal effect against dermatophytosis in dogs and could be considered as a treatment option.
