TLDR PCOS patients, especially obese ones, often lack vitamin D and may need supplements and lifestyle changes.
The study investigated the impact of vitamin D supplementation in PCOS and non-PCOS patients over 24 months, involving 60 cases and 30 controls. Results showed that PCOS patients, particularly those who are obese, are significantly more likely to have vitamin D deficiency, with a prevalence of 11.4% and a 4.75 times higher risk compared to non-PCOS patients. Obese women with PCOS had a 57.1% prevalence of vitamin D deficiency. The study recommends frequent follow-ups, lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and possibly vitamin D supplements and insulin sensitizers for PCOS patients, especially those with obesity and insulin resistance.
