TLDR Educating patients on phototrichogram increased satisfaction in androgenetic alopecia treatment.
The study aimed to evaluate the impact of patient education about the phototrichogram on the satisfaction of patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The phototrichogram is a standard method widely used as a diagnostic tool to measure hair count and thickness. The survey of 119 AGA patients' satisfaction with the phototrichogram was performed, and the same survey was completed by 102 AGA patients after education. After receiving education, many patients regarded the phototrichogram as a useful measurement tool in AGA treatments. Patients replied that they were given more information about their disease and were able to compare therapeutic effects. After proper education, patient complaints related to the procedure significantly decreased. The number of patients who thought the procedure was time-consuming and uncomfortable also significantly decreased. Patient satisfaction with the clinical practice increased in comparison with previous treatments that did not use the phototrichogram.
