TLDR Using implanters in hair transplants can improve outcomes and cause less damage to hair follicles.
In 2017, two studies were conducted to investigate the impact of using implanters on the quality of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) grafts in hair restoration surgery. The first study involved 100 patients and found that the use of implanters did not negatively affect the graft quality, but rather was associated with a lower transection rate, indicating fewer hair follicles were damaged during the procedure. The second study, conducted by Conradin von Albertini and Marie-Anne von Albertini, involved seven Caucasian men with a total of 15,147 grafts transplanted. The results showed that only 0.5% of hair follicles displayed damage after implantation, and the risk of rare injuries was negligible with sufficient experience and caution. Both studies concluded that the use of implanters can potentially improve the outcomes of FUE hair transplant procedures. However, the document also emphasized the need for further research to definitively conclude the effectiveness of implanters.
