TLDR Hirsutism greatly impacts women's mental well-being and finances.
This cross-sectional study in Western India assessed the psychosocial and financial impact of hirsutism on 50 female participants, revealing a significant negative effect on quality of life, with a mean DLQI score of 15.98. The financial burden, particularly from laser therapy, was significant (p = 0.013), as women frequently used costly and repetitive hair removal methods like waxing, shaving, and laser therapy. The study emphasizes the need for more cost-effective and permanent solutions for managing hirsutism and calls for further research across diverse ethnic and cultural groups to better understand its psychological and socioeconomic impacts.
