TLDR A certain gene variation is linked to a higher risk of polycystic ovarian syndrome in South Indian women.
The study examined the relationship between the IGF2 Apa1 A820G gene polymorphism and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in 204 women with PCOS and 204 healthy controls. It found a significant association, with the G allele being more frequent in the PCOS group and the GG genotype increasing the risk of PCOS. Women with the GG genotype also had higher BMI and insulin resistance. The study suggests that the IGF2 gene polymorphism could be a molecular marker for identifying women at risk of PCOS in the South Indian population.
