TLDR IGF-1R may play a role in female hair loss and could be a treatment target.
The study examined the role of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) in female androgenetic alopecia (FAGA) by comparing 20 FAGA patients with 10 healthy controls. It found a significant reduction in IGF-1R intensity and percentage in FAGA patients compared to controls (P = 0.001), indicating IGF-1R's potential involvement in FAGA. Despite this, no significant correlation was observed between IGF-1R expression and factors like age or menstrual history. The study suggested that IGF-1R could be a potential therapeutic target for FAGA, although it did not find a significant relationship between IGF-1 expression and clinical parameters such as age, disease duration, family history, menstrual history, and contraceptive use.
