TLDR Cyclosporine effectively treated a woman's stubborn skin condition.
A 51-year-old Japanese woman with idiopathic follicular mucinosis (FM) on her right cheek, resistant to various treatments, was successfully treated with cyclosporine. Initial treatments, including oral roxithromycin, topical hydrocortisone butyrate, oral indomethacin, minocycline, and dapsone, were ineffective. Prednisolone improved the condition but led to a relapse. Cyclosporine at 2.5 mg/kg per day was added, and symptoms did not recur even as prednisolone was reduced and eventually discontinued after 3 years. The dosage of cyclosporine was tapered to 1.5 mg/kg per day without relapse. This case suggests cyclosporine as an effective treatment for refractory FM, potentially due to its suppression of T-cell production.
