TLDR Radioiodine-131 significantly accumulates in skin and hair.
The study investigates the accumulation of radioiodine-131 in the skin and hair following its intraperitoneal injection in rats, where the iodine content in the skin peaks at 35% of the administered dose within 2 hours. Observations in patients treated with radioiodine-131 for thyroid cancer also show significant accumulation in human hair. This finding is important for understanding the mechanisms of iodine migration and deposition in both animals and humans. Further research is needed to confirm iodine accumulation in human skin during therapeutic use.
