TLDR Clomiphene citrate can reverse low hormone levels and symptoms in male runners with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.
A 29-year-old male runner with idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, characterized by low LH, FSH, and testosterone levels, was treated with clomiphene citrate (CC) at doses up to 50 mg twice daily for 5 months. This treatment normalized his hormone levels and improved clinical symptoms, including erectile function, testicular size, sexual hair growth, and overall well-being. The study suggested that exercise-induced hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is a clinical condition in male endurance athletes and that CC could be a safe and effective treatment for this condition.
