TLDR Local testosterone treatment improved sexual desire in a female with fragile X syndrome.
In a 2007 case report, a 36-year-old female carrier of the fragile X premutation with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) was successfully treated with local testosterone application (1% 5g twice a week) for 1 year. The patient, who had a low sex drive and poor arousal for the past year, showed dramatic improvement in libido and sexual function within 3 weeks of starting treatment. Throughout the year, she was monitored every 3 months for blood counts, lipid profiles, liver functions, and testosterone levels. The only side effect reported was mild facial acne, which resolved 2 months after completing the treatment. This case suggests that low-dose testosterone can be a safe and effective treatment for HSDD in fragile X carrier females, provided that regular monitoring is conducted.

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  162 upvotes 1 month ago
Dutasteride is less commonly prescribed for hair loss because it is not FDA-approved for this purpose, unlike finasteride, which is more accessible and preferred due to fewer side effects. Dutasteride may be more effective in reducing DHT but has a longer half-life and potentially more significant side effects.
