TLDR Hormone replacement therapy can improve skin aging in postmenopausal women.
The document discussed the potential of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as a treatment for skin aging in postmenopausal women, which results from intrinsic, photo, and hormonal aging. It was found that HRT could alleviate symptoms such as skin dryness, roughness, and atrophy by increasing skin thickness and dermal collagen content. Experimental studies showed that oestrogens enhanced fibroblast activity and increased water, hyaluronic acid, and collagen in the skin. The study demonstrated a 10-20% increase in skin thickness in women treated with HRT compared to those not treated, particularly in non-sun-exposed areas. HRT also helped reduce hyposeborrhoea and limited facial hair masculinization, making it a viable treatment for oestrogen deficiency-related skin aging.
