TLDR The method effectively detects banned substances in urine for sports antidoping.
The paper presented the development and validation of a high-resolution full scan (HR-FS) liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/Q/Orbitrap MS) platform for screening prohibited substances in human urine, meeting World Antidoping Agency (WADA) requirements. It also validated the quantitative analysis of six endogenous steroids in their intact sulfates form. The method involved a combination of hydrolyzed urine liquid–liquid extraction and dilute & shoot addition of original urine. The HR-FS MS acquisition mode with Polarity Switching and Quadrupole-Orbitrap mass filter allowed comprehensive detection of known and novel prohibited substances and metabolites, proving fit-for-purpose for antidoping analysis.
