TLDR Hormone therapy can improve sexual health and quality of life for women 70 and older.
The study reviewed charts of 29 women aged 70 and older who were treated with monitored hormone therapy (HT) for sexual dysfunction. Despite guidelines recommending HT primarily for younger menopausal women, this study found that older women could benefit from HT, experiencing improved sexual outcomes and reduced discomfort. The therapy included systemic and local bioidentical hormones, with regular monitoring of hormone levels and genital health. While some adverse events like breast tenderness and hair changes were noted, there were no cases of cancer or thromboembolic events. The study concludes that with proper counseling and monitoring, HT can be a viable option for older women, enhancing their sexual function and quality of life.
