TLDR A Holstein calf in Iran with a severe genetic skin disorder was euthanized due to incurable symptoms.
A Holstein calf in Iran was diagnosed with congenital ichthyosis, a genetic disorder characterized by hair loss and thick, scaly skin, leading to its euthanization due to severe symptoms. Blood tests indicated elevated plasma parameters, and histopathological analysis showed hypergranulosis and hyperkeratosis. The disease was linked to an autosomal recessive gene defect, is incurable, and often results in the removal of affected livestock. This case was significant for reporting hereditary collagen dysplasia, a first in ichthyosis cases.
