TLDR Goat skin has collagen, elastic, and reticular fibers, with hair follicles increasing in depth as goats age.
The study on goat skin dermis analyzed 220 samples from goats aged 6-12 months and over one year, focusing on histomorphology, histochemistry, and histoenzymology. It found the dermis comprised collagen, elastic, and reticular fibers, connective tissue cells, blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and arrector pili muscles. The dermis was divided into a thin papillary layer and a thick reticular layer, with collagen fibers densely arranged in the papillary layer. Age-related changes included increased depth of primary hair follicles. Histochemical analysis showed moderate PAS positive activity, indicating dynamic integumentary processes, while histoenzymic analysis revealed mild to moderate acid phosphatase activity. These findings provided foundational data for future research and potential applications in the tannery industry.
