TLDR Keratoacanthoma comes from hair follicle cells.
The study analyzed keratoacanthoma (KA) biopsies from the lips and normal skin samples using immunohistochemical and histochemical profiling to determine the origin of KA. The findings showed that KA tumor cells were positive for PAS, K6, K10, and K14, but not for hair cortex keratin, indicating that KA of the lip is derived from outer root sheath (ORS) cells, particularly those associated with the upper ORS. This suggested that KA arises from hair follicle cells, providing insight into its histogenesis.
